Visiolink ready with iPad App for media companies05/05-2010
Only a week after Apple's launch of the iPad in the US, Visiolink was ready with an application which makes it possible for all media companies to publish their printed content on the iPad. Last week Visiolink participated in MediaXchange – one of the largest media exhibitions in the US – and presented an iPad App for the more than 1,000 participants, all professionals from the media industry.
In the midst of the euphoria of Apple's launching of the iPad the Danish software company Visiolink announced to be ready with an iPad App ensuring that the printed content of all media companies can be read on the iPad. With the E-pages software of Visiolink the printed paper is converted into an iPad version which can be downloaded through Apple's App Store. The iPad – the lifeline of media companies
The iPad was launched in the US on April 3rd and within only a few days 500,000 iPads were sold to the American consumers. Later this year when the iPad will be available in Denmark the Danish media companies in cooperation with Visiolink will easily and swiftly be able to distribute and sell their printed content directly on the iPad.
For Visiolink it is crucial to be able to offer their customers the opportunity to distribute their content on all the devices available on the market– including the iPad.
”The newspapers' falling circulation has been a challenge for a long time and therefore the launch of e-papers for computers has been beneficial for the media companies as well as the readers. Furthermore, the iPhone users are currently showing great interest in the news portals proofing that smartphones and especially iPhones have become a popular choice when it comes to e-reading of news,” explains Jens Funder Berg, the CEO of Visiolink. He elaborates:
"The media companies are in a massive need of finding new distribution channels and it is our job to develop solutions which commercially support these new sales outlet. Regardless of which hardware platforms that will emerge we will be ready with the software which will insure that the ”good old” printed newspaper can be read. In this way Visiolink takes responsibility for helping the media companies safely into the future.”
More electronic reading devices on the way
Generally speaking e-reading is up and coming and the amount of smartphones and eBook devices are still rising which is also the case with a new category – the so-called MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices) – which are also facing a big breakthrough.
"The iPad has set the agenda for a whole new reading convention. We know that other hardware producers will follow shortly and that HP, for instance, later this year will launch their so-called HP Slate which is similar to the iPad. Therefore, we at Visiolink are working determinately on being ready to support any new device which will be introduced to the market,” tells CTO Kaare Boegh.
